Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."        Mt 28:18-20

BISHOP’S APPEAL

Today we conduct the commitment part of our Annual Bishop’s Appeal.  In my appeal last weekend I spoke of the importance of the Appeal for our Diocese and parish.  Your pledge to the Appeal enables the various agencies and offices of the Diocese to fulfill the mission of Christ on earth.  This includes taking care of the needs of the poor, the homeless, destitute single parents, the hungry and so on.  Over 100,000 families and individuals were assisted by Catholic Charities this past year.  And the need increases from year to year.  Other agencies – the Family Life Office, the Consultation Center, Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, the Tribunal and many others depend on the Appeal in order to continue their services to the people and parishes.  Our assessment for this year is $64,000.  Last year we reached our goal and it is my hope and prayer that we will do so again this year.  To this end I ask all to increase your pledge so that we will have every chance of attaining our goal.  Any overage will be returned to our parish!

In a week or so we will send a letter and envelope to every registered parish family or parishioner, hoping to reach those who have not heard our pulpit message or receive a pledge envelope.

Again, please be as generous as possible – the Lord loves a cheerful giver and your sacrifice will not go

unrewarded                                Father Maher.

Coffee Time with Friends will be Thursday,

May 8th  at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room.

All are invited!

Congratulations to Laura O’Connor, Grade 8, who won 1st prize for her poetry entry in the Diocesan Capital Region Pro Life Council Contest.  This contest was voluntary and Laura chose to be a part of it.  Kudos, Laura.

PRAYER GROUP

Our Monthly Prayer Group will meet at 11:30 this Monday to remember in prayer those in our parish who are sick and our Called to Be Church Program.

SPRING ENRICHMENT

Next week is Spring Enrichment Week.  Time is running out to register for the workshops.  The program will run from May 12th to May 15th at the College of St. Rose.  There will be over 150 different workshops and classes to increase our knowledge of the faith, improve our ministerial skills and for spiritual renewal.  While the deadline for registration is May 5th, you can still mail your registration to the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis so it can be processed by Friday.  The brochure and registration forms are available on-line at www.rcda.org.

In your prayers please remember the soul of Patrick Mucci, called to eternal life this past week.  May he rest forever with our Risen Lord.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH CLUB

It’s back for a second season!  Come join each other for company and lunch for the months of May, June, July, and August at 1:00 P.M. on the LAST WEDNESDAY of each month at various local restaurants.  As usual, there will be separate checks, reasonable prices, and ordering from the menu.

The first lunch is on Wednesday, May 28th at 1:00 P.M.  at  Normanside Country Club, 150 Salisbury Road, Delmar.  Please call  Mary Horan (438-7481) by Wednesday, May 21st  (so we can let the restaurant know approximate numbers).  All are invited.  (Directions provided next week).

CONFIRMATION

Twenty of our young men and women will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Tuesday at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Madison Ave.  The ceremony will begin at 7:00 P.M.  All candidates and sponsors are required to be in the Church by 6:45 at the latest.

Rehearsal for Confirmation will be this Monday at 7:00 P.M.  Sponsors must attend with the candidates.  If a sponsor cannot attend, another person should be with the candidate to act as place-holder.
